Subscribe for the latest news from SNTV: bit.ly The final countdown to the 10th Special Olympics World Winter Games kicked off Wednesday with an official torch lighting in Seoul. The flame had been lit on January 17th in Athens before making its way to the South Korean capital for Wednesday’s ceremony. An official torch lighting in the South Korean capital Seoul took place on Wednesday. The torch now begins a weeklong relay through 16 South Korean cities and counties before arriving in Pyeongchang, host city of the Games. The Games officially open on January 29th, with the closing ceremonies scheduled for February 5th. 3300 athletes and officials from 120 countries are expected to take part and what is being billed as the largest winter multi-sports ever hosted in South Korea. They will compete in 55 events across seven sports. And of course there will be plenty of this – dancing to Korean rapper Psy’s “Gangnam Style”. The Special Olympics, which alternate every two years between the Summer and Winter Games, are the world’s second largest sporting event after the Olympics. The Games will also be a first test for Pyeongchang, which is set to host to the 2018 Winter Olympics. Subscribe for the latest news from SNTV: bit.ly Thai striker Teerasil Dangda talks about his experience on trial at Atletico Madrid. Teerasil Dangda finished top scorer in the Thai League last season – hitting 24 goals for Muangthong United. His striking abilities caught the eye of Atletico Madrid – a partner club of Muangthong – and the 24-year old was invited over to the Spanish capital to practice with the La Liga club. Teerasil Dangda: “The difference is the quality of all the training equipment, including the quality of the field. Another difference is the quality of the players. They are stronger and faster. And their attitude towards the game and the seriousness during the training are also different.” Originally his trial was only scheduled to last two weeks, but has since been extended to a full month – something Dangda is hugely grateful for. Teerasil Dangda: Of course, I benefit a lot from playing with world-class players in the team like Falcao and also from the environment and the attitude toward the game. Here players are much more serious than in Thailand. Everything I experience here can be taken as lessons and now it’s up to me to take them and use them.” This is not the first time Dangda has tried his luck outside of Thailand – he signed for Manchester City in 2008 but failed to make a first team appearance. He then made six appearances for Swiss club Grasshopper on loan. Breaking sports news: www.youtube.com Follow SNTV on Twitter: www.twitter.com SNTV
