I Love to Sleep
April 19th, 2008
I love sleep too much. I know this because whenever I get a lot of sleep I feel the need to tell the whole world. Hey! I got to sleep in today! I don’t have to be in to work until 2 p.m. but I have been late once or twice because I overslept. I think my co-workers find this amusing…or I find it amusing and they think…well, whatever they want. I hope they know that my afternoon naps are the reason why I have the energy to hang out with teenagers all afternoon!
So yeah, I slept until noon today then lounged around for two hours, working up enough gumption to clean out the tall stinky thing in the kitchen that keeps the food cold. Rick napped for a couple hours since he got several calls during the night and one early this morning (he’s The Man at work while The Man is away for two weeks), after which he couldn’t get back to sleep. After I created a grocery list he went shopping for me. He deserves a Man of The Year award for that in my book.
Right now I am trying to keep myself occupied until Bren gets home from her night out with friends. I think this is the first night she’s been out that I didn’t call or text her at least once. That took a Herculean effort on my part, I tell you. She’s on-base (I know she won’t be traveling in a car going faster than 35 mph), and it’s not getting dark until past 10 p.m.; she attended the school play, and then the Teen Hangout, and probably stopped by the bowling alley for a burger. It’s hard to let go and trust all the years of training and prayer we’ve poured into her young life—but I’m trying. I was thrilled when my cell phone let out a little bleep at 10:30 lettining me know I had a text. Mom, is it okay if I have an extra forty minutes? Of course it’s okay.
What have you all done, or are doing this weekend?

We attended what our town likes to call “The World’s Largest Barbecue” yesterday. It’s a free barbecue meal for all the military families in town. Really nice. We also went furniture shopping and found a chair we’ve been wanting for awhile-for half the price we originally found! Today I actually jumped on the trampoline with my daughters. They enjoyed it more than I did. It’s kind of like swinging as a grown up-just doesn’t affect me in the same way.
