Is it my imagination, or did the girls look like they had fun last night? (Hint: the bikini top-wearing fashion statement is related to me in some way). Amazingly enough, Bren got to sleep by 3 a.m. and was rested enough to keep from falling asleep in church this afternoon.

While I sat in the truck this morning waiting for Bren to emerge from her friend’s house, I rolled the window down so I could smell and feel the cold air. It hit me just how much I am going to miss about Alaska. I love the cold, I just don’t like the brutal frigid air. After I took this pic I hung my hand out the window and tried my best to memorize how good it felt. I know soon enough I will be hanging my sweaty hand out the window, letting it float on the hot Missouri summer air.

Lord willing, Bren and I will be leaving Alaska and flying to Missouri on May 24th. Exactly a month later Rick will deploy to the Middle East—his last deployment of his military career. Providentially, I believe, we had decided that Bren and I would return to the Lower-48 for good before we learned of the deployment, and that was a very big blessing, as the government is picking up the tab for us moving and living elsewhere, and we will be able to ship Bren’s car. This all may not have been possible had we found out about the deployment first.

Our main motivation for moving is to allow Bren to attend her last two years of high school at the same school, and have her in closer proximity to the Christian colleges she plans to apply to. We would have ended up having to leave Alaska at the beginning of her senior year, and although thousands of military kids have done it and survived just fine (she would as well), we saw a way to make things easier, so we took it. For the first time in her life, Bren will be close enough to family for them to get to know her, and she them.

You may email me if you’d like the rest of the details, such as what’s going to happen after Rick’s done with his deployment—or if you have any other questions.
