Christmas Day
December 26th, 2007
I’m never letting Bren go to bed early on Christmas Eve ever again. She woke up a little after 5 a.m. this morning and lay there in bed until exactly 6 a.m., at which time she woke us up. I had only been asleep for three hours. Yes, I realize that was completely my fault, but still. Six a.m.?
The gift-opening session was a blur, but I do remember opening this, and being very surprised:
My friend, Kim, has one of these coffee makers and makes me a great cuppa coffee every time I visit. I’ve been wanting one for about a year, and now I have one :)
Bren really surprised me this year. On Christmas Eve morning she had her dad take a picture of the two of us, saying she wanted to put it on her MySpace. I thought it was a good idea, so I took one of her and Rick to put on her site as well. Instead, she took the disc to Wally World, printed the pics, bought nice frames for them, and wrapped one each for her dad and I. Priceless!
A month ago I intercepted Rick’s college diploma in the mail and had it matted and framed professionally. Amazingly enough, we managed to keep it a secret and he was very surprised when he opened it this morning.
My favorite gifts were my books of course, and was pleased to see them in the mailbox yesterday. I got…
- Polishing God’s Monuments, Jim Andrews
- Night of Weeping: When God’s Children Suffer, Horatius Bonar
- The Cross He Bore, Frederick S. Leahy
- Addictions: A Banquet in the Grave, Edward T. Welch
- Respectable Sins, Jerry Bridges
Barnes & Noble was very generous with the coupons these past few weeks, so I took advantage of one and got 25% off (plus another 10% off for my members discount) The Word of Promise, a New Testament Audio Bible. Rick, Bren, and I have been listening to it in the car and we love it! It is very well made and enjoyable to listen to. It was especially nice being able to listen to the story of Christ’s birth in Matthew. I highly recommend it.
After napping this afternoon we drove to town and saw The Great Debaters. Wonderful movie. Go see it.
I hope you all had a happy Christmas with your loved ones. For those who struggled through it all, emotionally or otherwise, I pray Christ will bring comfort to your soul.

Those are such nice pics of you all!
After my gallbladder attack at 7am, I managed to have a nice day and even enjoyed some Christmas dinner. Anyone need a used gallbladder? :-)
Glad you had a nice Christmas, Donna.

I just got a $25 gift certificate to B&N and I’ve got to say that I’m shocked by their prices. They are WAY, WAY, WAY more expensive than their competitors (such as Amazon.com) and that even their member prices are noticeably higher.
I just saw a preview for the Great Debators and it looked good. We’ll have to see it at some point.
Merry Christmas, friend.
1f93Those are GREAT pictures, and I almost picked up The Word of Promise last month when I was looking for another movie (The Christmas Hope) that I found out was not out. I had listened to the audio book and have the rest of them from the series, definately a 3 hanky special. Thanks for the reviews, I’ll have to run back to the Christian book store to get it now.
